ITANAGAR, Jul 25: The pressure built up by the media fraternity against repeated attacks on them and their establishment ultimately yielded result with police Tuesday night arresting 10 accused in the April 15 Arunachal Times vandalisation case.

“During interrogation, the accused admitted of their involvement in vandalising the office of The Arunachal Times and identified themselves in the footage,” the SP disclosed. Police suspects that the same group may be linked to the July 15 assassination attempt on journalist Tongam Rina in front of the daily’s office, he said adding that the modus operandi was the same in both the cases, and that both incidents occurred on Sundays.
Personal vendetta was less likely cause than, seemingly, to create sensation and send a louder wrong message outside the state, Tamang hinted.
Responding to a volley of questions, he admitted his mistake of not allowing the footage to be published. “There is no definite definition of investigation and I thought such publication will alert the culprits but it is a lesson,” he said.

He, however, refused to divulge the names saying more arrests and disclosure, particularly on the possible link between the two cases, are expected during the ongoing sustained interrogation. Photographs and names would be released soon after completion of the legal process, he said.
Terming Rina’s attack case as a personal and professional challenge for him, Tamang said “few disgruntled people are out to create law and order problems while the masses want peace. With the cooperation of the masses, I am hopeful of solving the case soon,” a visibly happy Tamang said.
“You are also police officers without uniform and I am a citizen with uniform and our united efforts alone will bring peace and tranquility in the society”.
Responding to another question, he said that those who assisted in the arrest have been suitably rewarded, while Rs 2 lakh reward to provide definite clue in Rina attack case still stands. However, the identity will be kept secret, he said.

Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists and Arunachal Press Club made a strong plea to the GoAP to ensure that bail applications of the accused are strongly opposed so that the criminals develop fear for law. If they are granted bail immediately, they feared, possibility of backlash contrary to the GoAP’s resolve to instil a sense of security in the state capital. Though Capital DC Sanjoy Goel during a thorough briefing Tuesday has directed all the magistrates under his jurisdiction not to succumb to any pressure while considering bail to accused, particularly in media attack cases, the media fraternity decided to keep a close watch to assess if it is a commitment or a lip service. AAPSU urges Govt to arrest perpetrators of gun attack on scribe
ITANAGAR, Jul 25: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) while expressing its solidarity with the Arunachal Press Club (APC) and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist (APUWJ) urged the state government to immediately arrest the perpetrators of gun attack on Tongam Rina, Associate Editor of The Arunachal Times.
“It is unfortunate to observe that the series of incidents like, brutal attack on Haku Tatak, a law student, the murder in the month of March at Papu Nallah and Chimpu, burning of APPSC office building in January, burning of PWD office, the Tamar Yoka case of Nirjuli, are yet to be solved and see light of the day,” APPSU said in a release while expressing grave concern over deteriorated law and order problem in the state capital.
“The high profile case involving cold blooded murder of Wangcha Rajkumar still awaits its final outcome with the case going at a snail pace courtesy Central Bureau of Investigation, the apex students’ body of the state said and repeatedly urged the state government to give a logical conclusion to all the cases so that a sense of security prevails in the mind of capital dwellers.
More over the process of judiciary in the state has given ample opportunities for the criminals to jump bail, it said.
Endorsing the Arunachal Law Students’ Union (ALSU)’s demand for early separation of judiciary from executives in the state, AAPSU said that separation of judiciary from executives would go a long way in containing criminal activities in the state with quick disposal of cases.
Meanwhile, the union in its central executive council meeting (CEC) in the wake of 4th North East Cultural festival from August 7 to 10, has constituted a committee with Takam Tatung, president AAPSU as chairman, Sammujal Bhattacharjee, chairman NESO as chief patron and Gumjum Haider, Secretary General NESO as patron for the successful conduct and urged the state government to beef up security measure for the mega event.
Heavy downpour cripples life in East Siang

RUKSIN, Jul 25: Incessant rain over the last few days has paralyzed life in East Siang district, causing water clogging in several places, worsening the link roads creating hardship for the commuters.

EKSWCO resolves to bring changes in EK
ITANAGAR, Jul 25: East Kameng Social Welfare and Cultural Organization (EKSWCO), the parental organization of East Kameng strongly resolved to bring changes in the district by reforming various wrong practices and abolishing social vices which are prevailing in the district. The resolution came after its 5th general conference held at Seppa on July 21 and 22 last.
EKSWCO vociferously resolved to oppose and discourage RTI activists who seek information to use it as blackmailing tool against the concerned officers and departments.
Expressing concern over the prevailing revenge system between clans or family in the district, the district parental organization further resolved that it would intervene in negotiation process after examining the gravity of incidents and would discourage the system for the interest of the society. In order to maintain social equality among the tribes in the district, it also resolved to oppose social abuse and discrimination.
To curb mushrooming of organizations and unions in the district, the organization resolved that before forming any organization, one should have prior permission from EKSWCO. The Organization further resolved that no any organization, except All East Kameng Students Union (AEKSU), shall be allowed to collect donation in the district.

Traffic awareness programme at Tawang

During the programme various issues relating to traffic safety and other transport related problems were discussed.
Speaking on the occasion, AAPPTF State General Secretary Dobing Sonam briefed about AAPPTF and its activities. He informed that AAPPTF is an apex body of all commercial vehicles in the state.
Taking serious note on various commercial vehicles which are plying in the state without proper plying permit, Sonam said that vehicle having registration from other states which are plying in Arunachal Pradesh under NGOs should obtain valid plying permits from State Transport Authority and take membership of AAPPTF. He further said that all the government departments, which are usually hiring vehicles, needs to take AAPPTF into confidence.
He advised the drivers to obey traffic rules for the safety and suggested that every NGO and Hotel management authorities within Tawang district should hire vehicles from AAPPTF members.
Regarding bank finance, he said that AAPPTF had signed a memorandum of understanding with Arunachal Pradesh Cooperative APEX bank for providing loan to the unemployed youth members of the AAPPTF for purchasing commercial vehicles.
AAPPTF, Tawang unit President Lobsang Chodup expressed serious concern over the humiliating behaviour shown to the taxi drivers while dealing with problems related to them. He further highlighting the dilapidated road condition said that the present road condition from Tawang to Bhalukpong has been a major issue for the vehicle owners and drivers. The government needs to look into the matter seriously for rapid construction of the said stretch of road, he said.
AAPPTF Tawang unit general secretary Dondup Tsering and Chairman David Sangten also highlighted the grievances and problems faced by the tourists at Tawang. They advised the Taxi drivers to provide better services to tourists and strictly urged the drivers not to misguide and charge unreasonable fare.
They also advised drivers to obey traffic rules and avoid rash driving, over loading and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Altogether, 1000 commercial taxi drivers, owners and public attended the programme.
AAPPTF Tawang unit also condemned the attacked on senior journalist Tongam Rina. It also demanded the concerned authority to give exemplary punishment to the culprit(s) involved in the attacked.

We all know that Dibang Valley is facing the wrath of nature. Natural calamities have totally disrupted road transport and communication system in the district forcing the common people and government employees to face acute shortage of food and other essential needs.
Unfortunately, transportation charges have been raised unbelievably in this hours of crisis. From Anini to 73 k.m the current rate is Rs 300 and from Arzu to Roing it is Rs 700. Besides the exorbitant rate of transportation, sky rocketing prices of essential commodities badly affected the life of common people.
Therefore, I on behalf of the local people of Dibang valley, appeal the concerned authority, particularly the district administration to look into the matter and take urgent measures to stop unnecessary exploitation of the situation.

Money is not everything
Dear Editor,
I would like to draw the attention to concern authorities regarding the recent advertisement
published in a local daily for district-
Right from the time of publication of the advertisement the noisome news spread entire district regarding the recruitment to the said posts but I take it normal thinking that it might be misinformation as usually people use to spread. But, very soon it shocked me lot when I witnessed the atmosphere of my native town Daporijo regarding the advertisement.
I found that everyone were engaged in search of money through various ways such as selling their own land, local ornaments, domesticated animals, farm field etc., to obtain sum of Rs. 2 lakh which is popularly said to be known as bribe price for the each post of AAPBN and IRBN.
So far I know the physical standard for a candidate should be – height 165 cm (general) and 160 cm (APST), while Chest – 78 cm (normal) and 84 (expanded). But I found that few aspiring candidates who are physically unfit as per cited physical standard are also in the queue of bribe track.
If money is everything, then just imagine, what will be the fate of those candidates who have the capability to become a police constable but no money? What will be the future of poor candidates? Should we let their dream remains as dream? Hope! It’s not fair for you too.
Therefore, such an illusion and aberrant policy should be put to an end as soon as possible before it happens, to save the state from balding its future, which is the abhorrence of our society. I am not against anyone as it’s personal matter, rather want to remove false ideology from our state and nation as a whole so that every candidate gets equal opportunity as per their talent, abilities and qualification.
Therefore, I appeal to all the concern authorities, especially higher authorities of police department to look into the matter very seriously so that deserving candidates get chance as per talents and ability not by the money power.
